Bill Turner, Executive Director of TLC (The Land Conservancy of British Columbia) is pleased to announce that Murray Rankin, QC has been elected to the position of Chair. The election occurred at the Board meeting on September 19th with Mr. Rankin taking office on October 13th.
Mr. Rankin is a partner in the law firm of Arvay Finlay, with offices in Victoria and Vancouver and has an active practice in land use and environmental law matters. Mr. Rankin holds law degrees from the University of Toronto and Harvard Law School and previously taught Environmental Law at the University of Victoria. Mr. Rankin is a past Chair of the West Coast Environmental Law Association and is a founding member of the Canadian Centre for Environmental Arbitration and Mediation.
"I am delighted to have Murray take the reigns of our Board at this time" said Bill Turner. "This election takes the development of TLC a major step forward in its planned growth and is a result of several years of planning and policy development."
"TLC is making an important difference in communities across British Columbia. I have enjoyed my years as a Director and am honoured to be elected to the role of Chair," said Mr Rankin.
Elected Vice Chair was Vancouver lawyer, Michelle Ellison. Judith Brand of Victoria was elected Secretary and Peta Alexander, also of Victoria, as Treasurer.
Bill and Murray both expressed their thanks to Victoria businessman, Stuart Stark, who served in the role of Vice Chair for several important years of TLC's rapid growth.
