A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit launched against some doctors, nurses and the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on behalf of a handicapped girl.
Lawyer Joe Arvay said an agreement had been reached. The trial has now ended but the agreement is still subject to final approval from the court and the public trustee.
Arvay was representing Holly and Cliff Strachan and their six-year-old daughter Sidney, in a lawsuit for which trial began Monday in B.C. Supreme Court in Victoria.
The lawsuit was launched to determine the amount necessary to provide Sidney with future care.
Complications arose at birth and Sidney now suffers cerebral palsy, development delay, and regular seizures.
Doctors and the Nanaimo hospital have already admitted to some liability in the case and agree to pay $290,000 for pain and suffering, the maximum amount allowed.
