Bruce Elwood joined Arvay Finlay in early 2007, bringing to the firm a diverse and practical experience in civil litigation. Bruce began his career as the articled student and protégé of respected senior counsel, John McAlpine, Q.C. After John retired, Bruce practiced in the litigation department of a leading national law firm.
He has acted as counsel or co-counsel in a number of long and complicated trials. He has also appeared in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. His experience includes commercial disputes, minority shareholder proceedings, medical malpractice, estates litigation, municipal law, regulatory prosecutions, aboriginal law and constitutional and administrative law. He has published academic articles in the areas of shareholder litigation, aboriginal law and fiduciary obligations.
Bruce regularly volunteers his time on pro bono matters, including representation for indigent parties in the Court of Appeal. Bruce considers himself a student of the law, with interests which are limited only by the next case that walks in the door.
