Arvay Finlay has extensive experience in the area of information and privacy law.

Arvay Finlay has acted for several public sector clients who have sought advice with respect to their responsibilities under freedom of information legislation, and for private sector clients seeking access to government legislation. We have also acted for the British Columbia Information and Privacy Commissioner.

In the privacy field, we have become increasingly active with the enactment of both federal and provincial legislation applicable to the private sector. This legislation, which came into force as of January 1, 2004 has significant implications for Canadian businesses; it covers the collection, use and disclosure of a very wide range of personal information. Arvay Finlay provides advice to several private sector clients seeking advice on their responsibilities under both federal and provincial legislation. In addition, Arvay Finlay has acted in one of the first cases to reach the Federal Court of Canada concerning the Personal Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

If you or your company needs advice about how federal and provincial information and privacy laws impact on you, contact us.
